Sex Education will feature a huge 'pivotal' moment in season 3, writer reveals
SEX Education writer Mawaan Rizwan has teased a 'pivotal' moment in much-anticipated third season of the hit Netflix show.
The season two finale left Maeve and Otis’s relationship on a cliff-hanger.
While he didn't reveal if the episode had a resolution for that plot point, Mawaan described the episode as climactic.
He explained: "A really big thing happens in episode five. A pivotal, pivotal thing.”
Talking about the impact the pandemic had on shooting the episode, Mawaan added: “I would say my episode is the least Covid safe, without giving away too much.
“I actually thought my episode was never gonna get made and they’d scrap it because I was like, ‘How are they going to do this?’
"But no, they have an amazing team and they have an amazing COVID team and they somehow managed. I actually didn’t have to do any rewrites.”
Despite filming during the pandemic, Mawaan said that is no mention of the coronavirus in the new season.
He said: “They do it in a really safe way but they also editorially don’t want to compromise the story because it’s not a world where Covid exists.
"So I’m really impressed by how they managed to keep it so Covid safe. It’s really tight the way the machine works, because it’s a big scale show. But it’s still satisfying story-wise – nothing changes.”
Ncuti Gatwa, who plays Eric, also teased his upcoming storyline for season 3.
He told RadioTimes: "Eric returns back to his culture a lot more and I think those scenes were very special.
“Just kind of having a set where the majority of people were Black was really great and really powerful and representing Eric’s culture and his family, those are always very quite profound moments.”
Aimee Lou Wood has confirmed that her character’s powerful sexual assault storyline will be continued in the upcoming third season.
