The USA Network show came to an end this June and, while viewers mourn the end of the popular series, some fans have taken to Reddit to speculate if a forgotten storyline could mean a season six renewal. Could fans see queenpin Teresa Mendoza back on screens soon?

Fans have loved every minute of Terera Mendoza’s (played by Alice Braga) journey from leaving her hometown in Mexico to building her drug empire in the US.

It was quite the final season as Teresa’s former right-hand man, James Valdez (Peter Gadiot), escaped captivity from enemy Devon Finch (Jamie Hector).

He later returned to New Orleans to once again team up with Teresa in a final fight in the drug war.

However, a forgotten Devon storyline has taken fans to Reddit to discuss the potential of a sixth season.

The show was renewed for a fifth season last year, and the network were adamant it would be the final season.

However, one user Reddit said in a thread: “After the massive happy ending for Triesta’s family, do you think they will return back into another season?

“I do expect yes! Especially when Devon realize that they’ve faked Treisa’s death and they still comprising a threat to him as a CIA agent.

“Probably we can see the return of Camila as an allie for Devon as long as she may still wants vengeance from Treisa.” (sic)

At the end of season five, James has a menacing conversation with Devon and he appears to betray his former lover Teresa and kill her in her own home.

The series was clearly intended for viewers to believe that this was the end of the cartel leader.

Though, it was later revealed James did not kill or betray her but Teresa had faked her death and assumed a new identity so she could start a new life.

Teresa stated: “Teresa did die, but she wasn’t murdered by an enemy or a rival.

“She was killed by me, a money-changer from Culiacán who defied all odds to survive.

“And if either prison or death were my own options, what do you know, I chose life.”

If Devon knew Teresa was still alive that would provide an almost unlimited amount of potential for possible storylines in the future.

Another viewer disagreed, however, that the show could return to finish up Devon’s story, saying: “No. This has been brought up a lot of times in the sub. Season 5 is the last one.”

A third responded on Reddit: “I just hope Netflix decides to pick it up, they did the same with la reina del sur years after it ended.”

Fans are clearly hoping that Netflix will resurrect Queen of the South, just like they did with La Reina del Sur.

However, while most fans were desperate to see the characters again, it seems clear USA Network and the show’s crew have ended the show for good.

“Imo it wrapped up too cleanly to try another season. I would’ve liked for the original to have been extended 1 season but I finished nicely enough,” a fan agreed.

Queen of the South was developed by M.A. Fortin and Joshua John Miller, and originally premiered in 2016 on the USA Network.

Queen of the South season 5 is available to watch on USA Network.
