Petition Calls for Removal of James Cordens Late Late Show Segment Accused of Anti-Asian Racism

The British comedian and TV host is accused of encouraging anti-Asian racism by ‘continuously’ mocking foods from Asian cultures in a segment called ‘Spill Your Guts’.

AceShowbizJames Corden has come under fire over the “Spill Your Guts” segment on “The Late Late Show with James Corden“. Having been accused of encouraging anti-Asian racism with the segment, the English TV host is now urged to remove it from his show as thousands of people signed a petition for its cancellation.

In the truth-or-dare segment, the 42-year-old’s guests have to either answer a difficult question or eat something that he and his producers find disgusting. However, as stated by the petition’s creator, Kim Saira, “many of the foods that he presents to his guests are actually from different Asian cultures.”

“He’s presented foods such as balut, century old eggs, and chicken feet, and which are often regularly eaten by Asian people,” Kim further explained. “During these segments, he’s openly called these foods ‘really disgusting,’ and ‘horrific.’ “

For Kim, the segment is “incredibly culturally offensive and insensitive.” The creator also claimed, “So many Asian Americans are consistently bullied and mocked for their native foods, and this segment amplifies and encourages it.”

“The media holds so much influence: according to Wikipedia, the Late Late show averages over 650,000 viewers per episode. That means, 650,000 people are being influenced to think that native foods from Asian countries are ‘disgusting’, or ‘horrifying,’ ” Kim added. “Content like this continually perpetuates and encourages harm and racism against Asian Americans in our daily lives.”

Before ending the petition, which gained more than 12,000 signatures out of 15,000 goals, Kim offered several suggestions to help make amends. James must completely change the kind of foods presented or remove the segment entirely, issue a “formal apology” and donate to “local Asian American organizations that are working to help Asian-owned restaurants and small businesses.”

James has welcomed a number of celebrities in the “Spill Your Guts” segment, including Kendall Jenner, Harry Styles, Jimmy Kimmel, Justin Bieber and Demi Moore. Despite being called out for several years for its cultural insensitivity, the segment has been around since at least 2016.
