ONLY Fools and Horses star John Challis’s nephew has tragically died with his family saying his watch was stolen from his body.

The family of the late BBC comedy star have shared their heartbreak on social media.


Challis died in September 2021 at the age of 79.

John’s wife Carol took to X, formerly Twitter, to share the devastating news, writing: "Simon’s personal belongings were returned to us today from Germany, at last.

“Sadly his wristwatch was missing.

"Disappointing that someone should feel the need to help themselves. God bless these two, my much loved husband and his friend, my nephew Si."

One commentator replied: "If it wasn’t listed on his personal belongings then I’m sorry to say it wasn’t on him when he passed away.

"If it’s something special to you then maybe it is in the place he lived instead."

Another post said: "You've had your fair share of sadness, but I sure hope that by posting all these photos and memories it brings you happiness.

A third posted: "Sorry to hear that. My daughter, husband and children live in Allgau in Germany."

"Despicable that someone would steal from someone’s personal property. Thoughts are with you all x," a fourth person wrote.

While one comment read: "That is so sad that someone could steal such precious belongings from a grieving family. So very sorry you’ve lost your nephew."

Another touching message said: "When you see John playing Boycie every other day on Gold, it makes it kind of hard to believe he’s not still with us. Hope you are okay Carol x.”

Challis became a much-loved actor mainly thanks to playing Terrance ‘Boycie’ Boyce in the classic sitcom Only Fools and Horses which starred David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst.

The hit show ran from 1981 until 2003 showing the scrapes the two wheeler-dealer brothers got themselves into hoping that one day they would become millionaires.

Challis reprised the character for the show’s spin-off series The Green Green Grass.

He was also a respected stage actor and appeared with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre.
