Naga Munchetty in furious coronavirus clash with Matt Hancock: ‘Straight talking please’

Matt Hancock led his first coronavirus press conference yesterday since contracting the virus and self-isolating. Naga Munchetty kicked off the interview by sharing her concern for the Health Secretary before urging him to state clearly whether the testing targets he announced were a commitment rather than a goal. However, when Munchetty felt Hancock was evading the question, the BBC Breakfast host clashed with the Health Secretary and demanded he make himself clear to viewers.

After quizzing Munchetty on his health, she remarked: “Okay so there’s the chat about health, that bit is over. I’m very pleased, I will reiterate, that you are back to good health again.

“Can we get through as much as we can in terms of details and straight talking from you please.”

Munchetty went on to clash with Hancock as he wouldn’t give her definitive answers to her questions.

She remarked: “I want to just take a look at your language that you are using, challenge, it’s a challenge.

“You’ve said this is a goal, we spoke to an NHS worker earlier who says they’ve heard you say this and are receiving this as a commitment

“That it will happen, can you guarantee that this is going to happen without using language like goal or target? This is going to happen.”

“Yes it’s got to happen,” Hancock replied.

But Munchetty hit back: “No, this is going to happen.”
