Massive Corrie exit for Geoff as 60th anniversary ends abuse story
Coronation Street fans have been gripped and enthralled by Yasmeen Nazir’s (Shelley King) plight, and living in hope that monstrous abuser Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew will finally get his comeppance.
The 60-year-old show has now unveiled plans for the momentous birthday celebration – and confirmed that the ending to this long running saga will play out.
With Coronation Street boss Iain MacLeod having already promised that the right outcome will be delivered and Ian Bartholomew promising that Geoff will get his comeuppance, it seems that Geoff will exit with a bang at the end of this year.
A Coronation Street spokesperson told Metro.co.uk: ‘The anniversary week will see three storylines reach spectacular conclusions while at the same time starting off new chains of events which will take the show into 2021 and beyond.
‘For months the nation has been gripped by the appalling abuse inflicted by Geoff Metcalfe upon his wife Yasmeen.
‘With Yasmeen on remand charged with Geoff’s attempted murder, the anniversary week will see the end of her trial. Will justice be done or is the nightmare only just beginning for Yasmeen and Alya?’
And that’s not all fans can look forward to as the channel is going all out to mark the record breaking milestone of the British institution.
The spokesperson added: ‘To celebrate this incredible milestone, between now and December 9, ITV will be screening special shows, publishing an anniversary book, launching new products, unveiling unique social media content and of course at the centre of it all will be a fantastic week of drama on the cobbles of Weatherfield.’
Given that Corrie are achieving all of this under the most difficult of filming conditions and in a very strange time for the world, hats off.
And it will be great as a country to have something to celebrate.
