Details are apparently been kept “tightly guarded”, according to The Sun Online, but the series is also said to feature highlights from the show’s six series.
A source has said: “ITV were gutted about pulling the plug on Love Island.
“It’s one of their most popular shows and also a huge commercial success.
“It just wasn’t feasible to go off to Mallorca and shoot at the villa, but this is a great way to get the show on air and give fans something to tide them over before it can return properly.
“Hopefully, the best-remembered names will agree to take part as it would be brilliant to see how they get on a few years later after so much has gone on in their lives.
“It could rekindle romantic feelings.”
A representative for Love Island declined to comment when contacted by OK! online.
The reality show has brought us many big characters since its revival in 2015.
One of those was Megan Barton Hanson, who recently claimed the show didn’t cast her when she said she wanted to date both “girls and guys”.
Megan, 26, told Metro that she was actually seeing a woman when she was approached by the show’s casting agents two years ago.

She said: “I was kind of seeing this girl, and I got approached to go on Love Island the year before I went on. And I was like ‘but I wanna date girls and guys’.
“They said they'd get in touch but nothing really happened. The following year, I thought, maybe if I go in straight, it would be easier, and that's obviously the year I went on.”
The former stripper added: “It's not like I was ashamed – I told people before about the way I felt.
“My family always knew, it was just more about other people's opinions that I was slightly worried about.”
