Lewis Capaldi back in the recording studio after writing 30 new songs for upcoming album

LEWIS Capaldi’s best-selling debut album only came out a year ago but the countdown is already on for the follow-up.

I can reveal the Scotsman has now written 30 tracks to be considered for his next record and he will travel from his hometown of Whitburn, West Lothian, to London in the coming days to start recording them.

It means he is well on his way to completing the album, having previously said it was unlikely it would be out until well into 2021.

He said: “I’m working on the next album at the minute.

“Restrictions of lockdown are being lifted here so I think I’m going to be able to go to London in the next two weeks to start recording it properly.”

And after scoring one of the biggest hits of last year with Someone You Loved, he teased he has penned four tracks which he can see being huge hits too.

Two-time Brit Award winner Lewis explained on US radio: “I’ve got loads of songs done for it.

"I’ve written about 30 so far in the course of lockdown — it’s been a fruitful and a busy pandemic for me, but four of them are good.

“There are four songs that I’m pretty pleased with.

“I’ve got a really bad habit of writing songs that I think at the time, ‘This is going to change the world,’ but then I realise, ‘Oh no it’s not — it’s four chords and it’s really terrible.’

“But I think these ones are good. I’m pretty chuffed with how it’s gone so far.”

His debut album Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, which was largely about his own heartbreak, is now close to selling one million copies in the UK and has spent a whopping 59 weeks in the Top Ten.

But this one is likely to be less teary as he is now dating local student Catherine Halliday.

Whatever he does, though, I have no doubt the album will be a massive success.

And having had his first record on repeat for a year, I can’t wait to hear what’s next.

Maya wants strict pay checks

MAYA Jama won’t fall victim to the gender pay gap again as she now insists on her manager checking how much her male counterparts are paid when she signs up for new jobs.

The TV host was shocked to discover a male co-host was getting more money than her during a previous job and was outraged.

She said: “I was doing the same amount of hours, speaking the same amount, if not more, than my co-host and we were doing live TV four days a week.

"I was like, ‘Wait, how much do you get paid?’ I didn’t think that was still happening, naively.

"And then I found out how much he got paid and it was a big difference to what I was getting and there was no proof he was more skilled than me – the only difference was that he was a man and I was a woman.

“Now I will make sure my manager is checking how much he’s getting and if we’re doing the same, make sure it’s equal.

"I’ll go out of my way to check those things and I shouldn’t have to – they should just be standard.”

Maya, who posed in this vibrant outfit at the weekend also said she believes she avoided any “inappropriate” behaviour as a newcomer in the industry because she was dating Stormzy at the time.

And treating men like a “bro” or “family” made sure no one got the wrong idea.

Speaking on the latest episode of Apple Music’s Agenda with Beats by Dre, she explained: “I was in a long term relationship that was public so that helped me out without people being inappropriate.

“But also at the same time I used to ‘bro zone’ and ‘family zone’ everybody so hard just so there was no hope of there ever being anything twisted.”

Good for her.

LIZZO has hit out at a landlord after being kicked out of a holiday home.

Sharing a video of herself twerking, she wrote: “This is for mocking the way I dance and for using Instagram footage of me and my six black homegirls.”

Kim's a lady in waiting

KIM Kardashian is red-dy to hit the White House as First Lady if her husband Kanye West’s presidential bid goes to plan.

The reality star wore this striking outfit on Instagram just a day after the rapper announced he will be running for office this year, despite missing the deadline in several US states to register as an independent candidate.

Kim and Kanye’s Tesla chief pal Elon Musk has backed his plans but I’m not convinced.

Bookies Paddy Power have odds of 80/1 that he will win the election, although it’s priced at 1/5 that he doesn’t run at all.

But if there was ever a year where something as crazy as Kanye becoming US President could happen, it’s got to be 2020.

Posh 'do

IF the Spice Girls want to replace Victoria Beckham when they tour again next year, her son Romeo might be their best bet.

After putting on a wig, he posted this photo on Instagram and wrote: “Same hair as Mum.”

Commuter George a real sharp scooter

GEORGE Ezra has made millions as a headlining pop star but it’s not his sexiest talent.

The Shotgun singer reckons being a whizz on a scooter is what really drives the girls crazy.

To get to his recording studio, George has been scooting through central London on a two-and-a-half hour commute.

The star, who recently split from his singer girlfriend Florrie, said: “I’m back in the studio, but obviously I had to sit down and figure out how I could do this responsibly because I didn’t want to get on the Underground.

“The answer is really long journeys on a microscooter.

“The pros – obviously chicks dig micro scooters, so that’s a big tick.

"I think once or twice, especially coming through Hyde Park, a few people recognised me and it made me laugh so much. The thought goes through my head, ‘What must they be thinking?’”

But while it has been good exercise, all that exercise has left him with a rather muscular leg, as my mock-up shows.

On his Phone A Friend podcast, he said: “It’s actually not the leg that I push with that’s the concern – it’s the leg that you’re static with on the board of the microscooter.

“I’ve just been on it for an hour and 20 minutes, but that leg is so swollen right now because all of your weight is on one leg and I can already feel I’ve got one thick leg.”

Better get those trousers altered, George.

Hot right now

FESTIVAL season might have been axed this year but Rita Ora has the clobber for it.

The How To Be Lonely singer showed off a snazzy Gucci bucket hat in this new Instagram snap, and it would have been right at home at Glasto last week.

Rita wore the designer headgear with a bright red and white floral print shirt.

I’ll be rocking something similar at Worthy Farm next year.

Barlow's back

GARY Barlow has almost completed his fifth solo album and intends to tour it next year.

The Take That singer said: “The new record is not piano and strings. I’m going to have to start training as it is a workout.

“The album is nearly done, everyone. There is a full orchestra on it and it is going to rock.”

Gary insists he is pushing ahead with a November release date for the record, his first since 2013, despite the lockdown.

In an Instagram Live, he insisted: “It’s coming like it always was.”

The One Direction singer said: “Isolation is hard for all of us, but harder for older people who can’t get out at all. I’m lucky to be able to chat to my grandma on WhatsApp but I’d be gutted if that wasn’t an option.”

It was a sort of shape I had to get into.” Thankfully he is back to a normal weight now while shooting Mission: Impossible 8.
