EastEnders fans heartbroken as Jean’s cancer ‘returns’ in tragic Christmas twist
EastEnders viewers were left in floods of tears during the Christmas Day special as Jean Slater found a lump on her breast.
The loveable character, played by Gillian Wright, was diagnosed with stage three ovarian cancer last year and is currently in remission.
She lost her boyfriend Daniel Cool (Ade Edmondson) to cancer last year in heartbreaking scenes.
The pair met while receiving treatment on a cancer ward in hospital and went on to become an item.
However, it appears that Jean may have to fight the horrendous disease once again.
During the latest visit to Albert Square, Jean tried on her new top she'd had for Christmas and her hand froze as she hand skimmed over a lump on her breast.
Viewers at home were left devastated at the thought of Jean going through another battle with cancer.
Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: "I can’t live through watching Jean go through hell again, please lord nooooo."
Another added: "If Jean’s found a lump, then Christmas is ruined."
A third person posted: "Oh please tell me that poor Jean's cancer has returned."
While a fourth emotional viewer wrote: "NO!! Not Jean! Please don’t let it be true…!"
The Christmas Day episode also teased the reunion of former husband and wife duo Stacey and Martin Fowler.
Stacey received her present from Martin and was left gobsmacked at her gift of an expensive watch.
Martin paled as he realised his blunder and later decades to spend some time with the Slater family.
EastEnders continues on BBC One on Boxing Day at 8.45pm
