The British actor was catapulted into the limelight after his controversial new film Borat 2 was released on Amazon Prime last week. A number of clips have emerged from the sequel to his 2006 comedy, including one where he was dressed as US President Donald Trump at a Republican rally. The TV star, who rose to fame with other characters including Ali G and Bruno, revealed his unusual link to Ms Anderson.
The glamour model, now 53, starred in Baron Cohen’s first Borat film Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan in 2006.
In the comedy, the main character was obsessed with Ms Anderson and at a book signing tried to kidnap her by shoving her into a “marriage sack”.
Fans attack the actor after his plot fails and he races out of the store to continue chasing the Baywatch actress, where he is eventually pinned down by security.
In the Last Laugh podcast last year, Baron Cohen revealed that they needed to film the scene twice in order to get enough of a reaction from fans.
In the first take he was able to put her over his shoulder and run out the store “and no one did anything”.
He admitted to being surprised by their inaction and added: “I was like, what kind of fans are these?”
Baron Cohen claimed that the stunt didn’t go down well with Ms Anderson’s husband of the time Robert James Ritchie, the musician known as Kid Rock.
Despite appearing in his film, he claimed he “was never friends” with the star and said that “Borat was the reason she got divorced”.

He explained: “She wrote that down on her divorce papers – ‘Reason to divorce: Borat.’”
Baron Cohen said that Ms Anderson showed Kid Rock the movie while they were at his friend Ron Meyer’s house but “hadn’t told him that she was in it”.
He continued: “She texted me after the movie and I said, ‘How did it go down?’
“And she goes, ‘Great, though I’m getting divorced.’ I thought it was a joke, but it was actually true.”
Borat Subsequent Moviefilm…, also known as Borat 2, is available to stream on Amazon Prime.
