Ant McPartlin thought his career was over and the public ‘had enough’ after his rehab battle – The Sun
ANT McPartlin has candidly confessed he thought the British public had "had enough" of him following his rehab struggle and drink-drive shame.
The presenter, 41, battled tough times in his life away from the telly which prompted him to check into rehab in 2017 following addictions to drink and prescription drugs.
Shortly after, in March 2018, he was arrested over a drink-drive crash in South West London after hitting two cars in his Mini.
He was later handed a £86k fine and banned from the road and, to deal with his issues, took a break from work which saw Holly Willoughby stand in and front I'm A Celebrity last year.
In an emotional chat reliving his troubled past few years, Ant told ITV show Ant and Dec's DNA Journey: "I thought the public had had enough.
"I didn't think I'd be allowed to do what I love anymore.
"But coming back and being on screen, the love and support shown to us is overwhelming.
"I can't thank people enough."
Fans celebrated as Ant returned to Britain's Got Talent this year alongside presenting partner and best pal Declan Donnelly.
During the height of the troubles, Dec fronted Saturday Night Takeaway alone – to huge praise from telly fans.
In the documentary, Dec also got emotional saying: “It's been a tough couple of years.
"It's really tested the bond that we've shared since we were like 13 years old.
"I was incredibly angry at the start. So angry. Disappointed in him that he didn't ever come to me and say, 'I'm struggling, I need you.'
"I thought that if the shoe was on the other foot I would have gone to him and said, 'I'm in trouble and I can't handle this, I need your help.'
"He never came to me – and that hurt me a lot."
