Alex Jones pulls out of The One Show for a week after pal gets coronavirus

Alex Jones is taking an unexpected break from hosting The One Show after a friend of hers tested positive for Covid-19.

The 43-year-old TV presenter confirmed on Friday's episode that she is isolating at home.

Alex was replaced on the show's green sofa by Gethin Jones and appeared via video call to explain her absence to viewers.

Alex Jones will miss the next week of The One Show after coming into contact with someone who tested positive for coronavirus.

The presenter, 43, was replaced on the BBC One show's green sofa by Gethin Jones on Friday.

Introducing her, Alex Scott said: "Lots of people have been asking where our lovely Alex Jones is. We’ve been missing her too.

"I’m pleased to say she is going to be joining us right now. Al? There she is.

"Al, I thought I’d be having a good old chat with you on the sofa but you’ve left me with Gethin!"

“I know,” the mum-of-two replied as she popped up via video from her kitchen.

“I’m really sorry, you know, I’m absolutely gutted that I’m not there.

“But what’s happened is, a friend of mine, somebody outside of work, who I saw a few days ago has tested positive for coronavirus.

“So we’ve done the right thing as a family and we’re isolating. I’ve taken a test and thankfully it’s negative."

She continued: "By the way my friend is fine as well. But we are staying in and following guidelines.

"I’ll probably be back at work, the week after next."

“That is good news Al,” Gethin replied before teasing Alex over her choice of background for the video call.

Alex then hit back: “Gethin, this is the only shot in my house where’s no toys and no food.

"It’s not very inspiring really but we have some pumpkins and a candle."
