The Real Housewives of Dallas returns to Bravo for season five on Tuesday, but there’s one noticeable absence: Cast member LeeAnne Locken is no longer on the show.

LeeAnne announced she was leaving RHOD ahead of this season, but… why?

Let’s look back on what went down: LeeAnne thanked fans on Instagram way back in February 2020 after news broke that she was done with the reality TV series. “From the bottom of my heart I want THANK YOU ALL for your kindness, your love & for making me laugh when I thought I couldn’t ❤️ YOU are what kept me going and YOU are who I will always be GRATEFUL for! 🙏🏻,” she wrote.

LeeAnne also said in a statement to People at the time that she made the “personal decision to step away from RHOD” after four years. “Getting to share my wedding with the viewers last year brought me tremendous joy, however, the season was very personally challenging for me,” she told the publication. “I am looking forward to stepping away from the cameras and spending quality time with my husband and friends, traveling, but most importantly, getting back to philanthropy, which was my main reason for joining the show.”

LeeAnne was a controversial cast member on RHOD, getting into an intense argument with her co-stars at one point before knocking a cameraman out of the way, slapping a trolley, and heading down the street barefoot. She also threw out a bunch of one-liners like, “my weave is exhausted” and “b*tch, you and I ain’t never gonna be friends.”

But LeeAnne really came under fire in season four after making racist comments to fellow RHOD cast member Kary Brittingham, who was born in Mexico, when the cast was on a trip to Thailand. During that trip, LeeAnne called Kary a “chirpy Mexican” and also said that Kary wanted to prove how “f*cking tough she is because she’s from Mexico.”

LeeAnne later apologized during the RHOD reunion and promised to never say that again. “I really f*cked up, and I really went in a hole, and I am really very upset and disappointed with myself,” she said on the reunion. “I am very sorry. I promise you it will never happen again.”

LeeAnne also issued an apology on Twitter, saying that she was “deeply sorry” for her comments and would use this as a “learning experience.”
