TikTok users are giving their tired old Ugg boots a new lease of life by cutting them down into slippers.

With many people stuck indoors due to Covid-19 restrictions, some have decided to adapt their outdoor winter shoes into cosy sheepskin slip ons.

People from around the world have shared tutorial videos on TikTok, during which they take a pair of scissors and cut down the seams before removing the excess fabric, giving them a whole new look.

One TikTok user, known as @abbyj420, said she chose to upcycle her seven-year-old Uggs because she couldn’t face throwing them out – despite them being a bit tatty.

Another, called Lyns, attracted more than 22,100 likes for her video, in which she demonstrated how she cut along the longest vertical seam and continued around to the back of the boot, where an ‘Ugg’ label sits on a stiffer section of fabric.

The final product, perfect for wearing around the house during lockdown, resemble the brand’s chestnut Tasman slippers, which retail at £90.

Others shared videos showing them trimming their tall Ugg boots so that they look more like the brand’s Classic Ultra Mini shoe, which is popular with celebrities including Emily Ratajowski, Kendall Jenner and Irina Shayk.

These shorter boots, which come up to the ankle, debuted in August last year and retail at £125.

TikTok user @Leah.Jacksonnn opted for this style by cutting vertically across the upper section of the boot, then adding a cut at the back and folding down the flaps to expose the fur.

Many people praised the bold trend, though lots admitted they were too nervous about cutting up their beloved Uggs.

One commented on Leah’s video: ‘I want to but like… I CAN’T UGH.’

Another tagged a friend and wrote: ‘Do it on yours, I’m too scared.’

And one wrote: ‘Ok this is like the fourth video that I’ve seen on this but my mom would literally murder me if I did it.’
