Thom Browne Unveils First Fashion Book Celebrating His Namesake Brand's 20th Anniversary
In celebration of his namesake brand’s 20th anniversary, Thom Browne will release his first-ever fashion book, in partnership with Phaidon. The binding, which houses a comprehensive monograph of the American designer’s path-forging impact on the industry, features specially-commissioned photography from Johnny Dufort curated by Andrew Bolton, Browne’s partner and the Wendy Yu curator in charge at The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York.
The book, designed by Ima Boom, begins with an introduction written by Bolton that examines Browne’s trajectory in fashion and his brand’s distinct design ideology. The 420-page monograph then recounts the visionary’s decades-spanning archive, with more than 200 images of modeled runway looks, across menswear and womenswear. Crafted with more than 40 gatefolds, the expansive book features a slew of horizontal images, in an effort to draw attention to details at a grand scale.
Like traditional photo albums, each page in the runway album is separated by vellum paper, and later on, a slew of never-before-seen photographs from Browne’s career compose the final chapter. In closing, the backmatter hosts descriptive captions for each of the looks featured in the book.
Thom Browne’s self-titled fashion book will launch on October 25. A limited number of signed copies are now available for pre-order on Phaidon’s webstore for $150 USD. Take a peek inside the binding in the gallery above.
