Snoop Dogg Cancels Hollywood Bowl Concerts in Support of WGA and SAG-AFTRA Strikes
More than one month after putting the ‘Doggystyle’ album’s 30th anniversary gigs on hold, the ‘Gin and Juice’ rapper regretfully announces the decision to scrap them altogether.
AceShowbiz –Snoop Dogg has scrapped plans to hold concerts for the 30th anniversary of his and Dr. Dre‘s “Doggystyle” album. Showing support for WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the “Gin and Juice” rapper regretfully announced the decision to cancel the gigs at Hollywood Bowl altogether.
The 51-year-old hip-hop artist made the announcement via Instagram on Tuesday, July 25. In a post, he stated, “We regret to inform you that due to the ongoing strike and the uncertainty of when this will be over, we need to cancel the Hollywood Bowl show.”
The “Bad Decisions” rapper went on to explain, “We continue to stand in solidarity with all of our brothers and sisters in the WGA and SAG/AFTRA during this difficult time.” He further added, “And remain hopeful that the AMPTP will come back to the negotiating table with a REAL proposal and we can all get back to work.”
The cancellation of Snoop’s shows drew mixed reactions. In the comments section, one Instagram user asked, “I mean… solidarity is good and all but what does this show have to do with the AMPTP?” Another voiced disappointment by writing, “Love the support but literally heartbroken you cancelled on us.”
A third, on the other hand, reacted positively by suggesting, “After we are done supporting the strikes, we should put this much dedication towards helping homeless and low income people!” Similarly, a fourth exclaimed, “Much love and respect to Uncle Snoop. You’re a cultural powerhouse and your support means a LOT.”
Snoop had to cancel his concerts at Hollywood Bowl more than one month after he put the shows on hold. On June 2, he announced that his and Dre’s “Doggystyle” 30th anniversary gigs had to be pushed back from June 27 and 28 to October 20 and 21.
At that time, the rap legend released a statement in an Instagram post, “DOGGYSTYLE 30th ANNIVERSARY POSTPONEMENT. Due to the ongoing WGA strike and the DGA and SAG/AFTRA negotiations, we have decided to postpone the shows scheduled for June 27 and June 28 at the Hollywood Bowl.”
Snoop further reasoned, “We stand in solidarity with the unions and are hopeful that the AMPTP will negotiate fair deals as soon as possible and everybody can get back to work.” The West Coast rapper additionally noted, “New dates are now October 20 and 21, 2023.”
