Simon Cowell celebrates birthday in first photos since horror bicycle accident

Simon Cowell appeared in high spirits in the first footage of him shared over social media since his accident, as he celebrated his 61st birthday.

Britain's beloved "Mr Nasty" suffered a back injury at the beginning of August, when he fell off his electric bicycle while riding around the courtyard of his Malibu home.

The injury, which required emergency back surgery, meant the music mogul was forced to pull out of the Britain's Got Talent finals in order to recover.

Thankfully, Simon looked in better health as he blew out the candles on his birthday cake, in footage shared by pal Terri Seymour, 48.

Filming from Simon's Californian home, his young son Eric, six, could be seen running around the kitchen, delighted to present his dad with a frosted birthday cake.

Skipping into the room, Eric sang the words to "Happy Birthday" to his famous dad, as Simon burst out laughing in surprise.

As the iced dessert was placed on the table, glowing with birthday candles, the camera panned to Simon, who had a smile plastered across his face.

Resting back in an armchair, the X Factor creator was sitting upright, having spent the last two months recuperating at home.

Wearing a navy cardigan and one of his trademark white tees, he appeared to have caught a tan under the Malibu sun during his rest period.

Simon's longterm partner, Lauren Silverman, 43, was sitting next to him at the head of the table, as she pointed out the cake was off-limits.

Referring to Simon's health-conscious diet, she remarked: "Second cake that you're not allowed to eat but at least the kids can have it!"

Simon celebrated his actual birthday on October 7, but the family waited for the weekend to mark the occasion at home.

The BGT judge has kept a low profile since he underwent the gruelling surgery but has reportedly been maintaining a nutritious diet and getting regular exercise in a bid to recover successfully.

And, with his family by his side, the busy record executive looks grateful to spend time with his loved ones as he returns to full health.
