NBC Delays ‘Ultimate Slip ‘N Slide’ Production Amid Explosive Diarrhea Outbreak
NBC has indefinitely ceased production for the upcoming game show Ultimate Slip ‘N Slide due to a giardiasis outbreak among the crew members.
According to a report from The Wrap, at least one crew member tested positive for giardia with up to 40 others catching on the infection at the production site in Simi Valley, California. Giardia — a small parasite found in soil, food, or water that has been contaminated with feces, had the crew “collapsing” and “being forced to run into port-o-potties.”
“The health and safety of everyone on our set is our number one priority, so out of an abundance of caution we have made the decision to stop production of Ultimate Slip ‘N Slide at the current location,” an NBC spokesperson informed People magazine. “We are in the process of determining next steps in order to complete production.”
The new competition series showcases teams competing in a water park of challenges inspired by the backyard game from Wham-O as it “takes the spirit of the classic backyard slide” and turns it “into a real-life water park full of gigantic slippery rides with the chance to take home a big cash prize,” according to NBC’s press release.
Ultimate Slip ‘N Slide is set to premiere on Sunday, August 8 at 10:30 PM ET, following the 2021 Tokyo Summer Olympics’ closing ceremony.
