My husband is leaving everything to his kids and giving me nothing
DEAR DEIDRE: MY husband has said that when he dies, our home will be left to his two children and not to me and my children.
He bought our house outright and his first wife got their family home in their divorce settlement. We both have two grown-up children.
He told me some time after I moved in that I could continue to live in the house in the event that he passes away, but when I pass away or if I decide I don’t want to live in our home any longer, his children will split it 50/50.

I was so upset but he assured me he wasn’t going to do anything formal by the legal route just at the moment.
However, yesterday I was looking for something in our filing cabinet and found some legal papers which he had had drawn up recently, leaving his children a half share each.

We are both 52 and have been married for three years. Do I not have a say?
DEIDRE SAYS: Unfortunately no two situations are the same.
While your husband has said you will be able to stay on in the house in the event of his death, you may be wise to get something in writing from him to show that was his wish.
Although he said he wouldn’t take legal advice, you have to look out for yourself to know where you stand.
