Maya Jama’s life off screen from presenting as a teenager to new Love Island host

Maya Jama has been revealed as the new host Love Island after weeks of speculation.

The 28 year old was one of the favourites to take over the role from former host Laura Whitmore, 38, who announced she was stepping down as the presenter of the ITV2 dating show following the end of this year's series.

Maya will make her debut as host as the new ninth series returns in early 2023. Speaking about the news, the excited star said: "I’ve always been such a massive Love Island fan and I’m so excited to be hosting one of the nation’s favourite shows! I can’t wait to get into the Villa to meet all of the Islanders.”

As we begin to get excited for another series of Love Island, here we take a look at new host Maya's life away from the cameras…

Maya is a TV presenter of Somali and Swedish descent who was born and raised in Bristol.

In 2012, she moved to London to pursue a media career and she initially hoped to become an actress, before deciding that TV presenting may be a better fit for her.

Maya landed her first presenting gig when she was just a teenager and began presenting the weekly music video countdown on JumpOff.TV before going on to work on TRACE Sports.

She then went on to join MTV and has continued to work closely with the Brit Awards since 2017.

Maya has co-presented many programmes including Cannonball, The Circle and the MOBO Awards. She also hosted Glow Up: Britain's Next Make-Up Star and Walk The Line.

Alongside TV, Maya has also ventured into radio, podcasting and modelling, and has been an ambassador for brands including Adidas and PrettyLittleThing.

Alongside her work, the 28 year old also enjoyed a high profile romance with rapper Stormzy, 29, from 2015 until 2019.

She went on to date basketball star Ben Simmons, 26, with the pair allegedly getting engaged, but it was recently reported that they'd called it quits.

Maya resides in West London in a stylish home and is believed to be worth a whopping £1.5million, and there's no doubt her new role as Love Island host will see her net worth increase.
