Lori Stokes’ beauty secret can be yours for $10
As an anchor on “Good Day New York,” Lori Stokes typically has access to a professional glam team — but these aren’t typical times.
The Fox 5 star told Page Six Style that since lockdown began back in March, she’s been taking her top-to-toe beauty regimen into her own hands, including applying her own relaxer at home — something she first did decades ago.
“I knew how to do relaxers because when I worked in Illinois [at WCIA in the mid-1980s], there were no salons that knew how to handle textured hair,” Stokes recalled. “So I started learning how to do my own relaxer. That was a throwback for me during quarantine.”
In addition to taking boxed hair color from the drugstore for a spin (“I put my plastic gloves on and went to work,” she joked), Stokes has also been relying on press-on nails in neutral colors in place of professional manicures. “But they’re coming off and it’s pretty raggedy right now,” she admitted.
One area where the TV journalist needs no help whatsoever, though, is skincare. Stokes says she “swears by” Minera Dead Sea Salt, a two-pound bag of which goes for around $10 on Amazon, and uses it from her head to her feet.
“The one pedicure I gave myself, I soaked my feet in it,” she told us. “And I will mix it with olive oil and fresh lemon and gently scrub my face. Sometimes I take a washcloth and put it in water with the sea salt, wring it out, and just lay it over my face. I find it really does wake up the skin.”
Lockdown or not, she added, “I’ve always been the only one to touch my face.”
