Jets trade Avery Williamson to Steelers as fire sale continues
The Jets’ fire sale continues.
General manager Joe Douglas on Sunday got rid of another veteran by trading linebacker Avery Williamson and a 2022 seventh-round pick to the undefeated Steelers for a 2022 fifth-round pick, The Post’s Brian Costello confirmed.
The move comes after the Jets fell to the Chiefs, 35-9, to drop to 0-8. Pittsburgh, meanwhile, held off their rival Ravens to improve to 7-0.
The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday.
Williamson has 50 tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery in 2020 after missing all of last season.
The 28-year-old is in the final season of a three-year, $22.5 million contract ($16 million guaranteed).
He is the latest high-profile Jets player to be moved this year. Douglas recently traded nose tackle Steve McLendon to the Buccaneers and released disgruntled running back Le’Veon Bell.
The Jets also traded safety Jamal Adams to the Seattle Seahawks before the season.
