J.Lo Moves On From a Past Relationship in Her New Song “Cambia El Paso”
J.Lo wants us to dance away the pain of a breakup.
The pop star just released her highly-anticipated new song “Cambia El Paso.” Lopez has been teasing the track, a collaboration with reggaeton artist Rauw Alejandro, since last May, when she promised “sexy summer fun.” J.Lo has delivered, with this Spanish-language dance track that tells the story of a woman who leaves an undeserving man.
The track, whose title translates to “Change the Step” has empowering lyrics about moving on and not being afraid of change. Lopez elaborated on the song’s meaning during an interview with SiriusXM’s Pitbull’s Globalization show last week.
“The song is about change and not being afraid to take the step. Like, just take the step, advance, do what you need to do. If something’s not feeling right, whatever it is in your life, like, just make that move and dance. Dance is life, and joy and happiness,” she said.

The song’s lyrics, sung in Spanish, reference a woman ending a relationship. Some of the translated lyrics are, “He doesn’t deserve to have her in his arms / She knows it, she knows it / Your life is better now without him … You don’t need anyone to be okay / She does not fail, she does not fail.”
Lopez is currently working on her ninth studio album, which is set to be her first Spanish language album since 2007, according to Rolling Stone. She dropped several singles last year, including “In the Morning” and her collabs with Maluma, “Pa’ Ti” and “Lonely.” She has also reunited with her former flame Ben Affleck, after calling off her engagement to Alex Rodriguez earlier this year.
