I have loud noises in my ears almost constantly and I'm struggling to cope

DEAR DEIDRE: I HAVE been suffering from tinnitus for the past few months.

I have loud noises in my ears almost constantly. It is driving me to distraction.

I am a 54-year-old guy and work in a busy supermarket. I can’t sleep at night and wake up exhausted each day. I’ve been stressed and depressed for months. I can’t stand the noise and there is no escaping it.

I can’t go on like this for much longer. It is starting to take over my life and I have days when I feel in a very dark place.

My wife, who’s 51, is worried about my mental state too. Can you suggest something that will help me cope with this horrible situation?
