GMB presenters this morning discussed the trials and tribulations of sleeping in the heat, bemoaning the quality of their sleep. It was humid and hot during the night.
Kate Garraway revealed she attempted a trick to keep cool in the hot and muggy weather.
She said: “I tried the whole dipping your bed sheet in water, it does work a bit but then you get too chilly.”
On the the other hand, presenter Adil turned his air conditioning up, lucky enough to be sleeping in a hotel room.
Another popular trick is to is to put a bottle with cold in water in the freezer or to have a cold shower before bed.
However, Dr Sarah Jarvis has a warning.
She said: “We don’t want to have a really cold shower. If you have a cool shower and then allow the water to evaporate off your skin…it will definitely help cool you down.”
She went on: They stole my idea about the cold hot water bottles, but please don’t forget; never put ice directly onto your skin because that can cause ice burns.
“But a cool flannel around your neck, and possibly putting sheets in the freezer, but not again risking any ice burns, can help.”

How to sleep when it’s hot
SleepFoundation.org has some tips for Britons who are struggling to nod of in the heat.
The best thing to do is attempt to stop your room getting hot in the first place.
Keeping blinds down will help as well as keeping windows closed.
Do not sleep in heavy clothes and sleep without pyjamas if possible.
Sleeping with a fan can help keep you cool too.
Misting your bedding lightly with water has helped some stay cool.
Spraying the same water on curtains can make any breeze even cooler, keeping body temp down.
Turning off electrical sockets will also help keep the temperature down, as they give up surprising amounts of heat.
What supplements can help you sleep?
Taking a melatonin supplement helps a person fall asleep faster and longer.
The body produces melatonin naturally, explained Dr Luis Buevaver, sleep expert at John Hopkins Medicine.
He continued: “It doesn’t make you sleep, but as melatonin levels rise in the evening it puts you into a state of quiet wakefulness that helps promote sleep.”
