HBO Max Finally Makes It To Amazon Fire TV Devices

HBO Max will finally be making it to Amazon’s Fire TV devices, with around six months having elapsed since it launched.

The service, which combines HBO content with plenty of the same from WarnerMedia, as well as lots of originals, came out without support for two of the United States’ major streamers – namely Amazon Fire TV and Roku. However, given a novel deal, existing HBO customers will have access to the HBO Max app on Fire TV devices at no extra cost.

The wait, which came as a bit of a surprise is said to be because of negotiations between the companies falling through. Amazon was vying for the right to provide HBO Max access to existing HBO subscribers through its Prime Video service but there were complications as HBO did not release the service as a brand new one but updating the existing HBO app to become HBO Max.

WarnerMedia also wanted to shop HBO Max as a new streaming service as opposed to a premium channel add-on. HBO said it was “reaching agreements with the few outstanding distribution partners left, including with Amazon and on par with how they provide customers access to Netflix, Disney+ and Hulu on Fire devices” following questions over its failure to get on Roku and Amazon.

A deal has finally gotten over the line. An announcement dropped on Monday morning revealing HBO Max will roll out on Amazon Fire streaming devices, Fire TV Edition Smart TVs, and Fire tablets on Tuesday, November 17.

“If you currently have an HBO subscription through cable and digital providers such as Hulu, AT&T TV, or DIRECTV on your Fire TV, then you can access HBO Max at no extra cost,” the announcement reads. “Not already an HBO subscriber? No worries, you can download the app on your Fire TV and get to streaming in no time.

“Search for HBO Max on your Fire TV, or ask, “Alexa, find HBO Max” to your Fire TV Cube or Alexa Voice Remote. That will prompt you to download the app, register/login, and voila — tons of new titles at your fingertips.”
