We are fundraising for Horse Common, a 91-acre plot of woodland and heathland in the New Forest. You have already generously given about £38,000, including £5,000 from eco-entrepreneur Dale Vince.
And if we can get to about £90,000, the RSPB believes this will unlock the remaining £360,000 from other donors. It plans to restore the reserve from commercial forestry to a rich habitat for birds, including nightjars and lapwings, lesser spotted woodpeckers and nightingales, as well as dragonflies and carnivorous sundew plants.
The plot sits next to RSPB Franchises Lodge and links with the Loosehanger Copse Site of Special Scientific Interest, Langley Wood National Nature Reserve to the north and the New Forest SSSI to the south.
It would become part of wildlife corridor helping threatened species to recover.
To help the RSPB to buy and rewild this precious plot of land, please send cheques made payable to “RSPB” to Daily Express Horse Common appeal, RSPB, The Lodge, Sandy, Bedfordshire, SG19 2DL or go to rspb.org.uk/expressappeal.
There is another option that would let you raise money just by using your mobile phone – if you switch your mobile sim card to an Ecotalk + RSPB sim, the RSPB will receive donations every month for as long as you remain a customer.
All the profits are invested in nature and have already helped the RSPB secure the Fairburn Tips in Yorkshire. You can keep your current number.
To help raise money with the Ecotalk + RSPB sim, go to ecotalk.co.uk/express and follow the instructions.
