Gordon Ramsay and Jay Rayner swap spicy tweets in row over Future Food Stars
Gordon Ramsay butted heads with food critic Jay Rayner in a Twitter row over the chef's new TV programme.
Jay irked the famously short-tempered Gordon with a spicy tweet that took aim at his behaviour on BBC show Future Food Stars – or FFS for short.
The new series, which is currently airing on BBC1 at 9pm on Thursdays, sees 12 entrepreneurs compete with each other for a life-changing investment from the Michelin-starred chef.
The hopefuls take part in pressure cooker hospitality-based challenges in a format similar to The Apprentice, and Gordon's unmistakably combative approach inevitably causes tempers to flare.
After the show's latest episode author and journalist Jay tweeted: "Is this still all you have @GordonRamsay?
"Shouting at people? Swearing at people? Humiliating people? Making people cry? Then punching the air when the cameras turns off?"
Social media users were quick to offer their opinions. One wrote: "I honestly don't understand it, why is toxic masculinity associated with cooking? You're not in the army lads, you're boiling broccoli."
A second commented: "Walked past Gordon's Burger restaurant in Farringdon today. Pointed it out to my teenage daughter, who responded 'I'm not going in there, he shouts too much, he frightens me'"
A third, referring to Gordon, wrote: "Between him and Alan Sugar they have dismantled any sense of good management, employee relations and business acumen. Want to know where the downfall of Britain started, these two are a very good example."
The Kitchen Nightmares star hit back, saying: "Jay your professional job is stuffing your face on the back of great chefs. When are you going to get a real job ??"
Gordon had earlier poked fun at Jay's appearances on celebrity editions of TV quiz show The Weakest Link.
He wrote: "Jay you inspire me every day…especially after your performance on the Weakest Link. Goodbye."
Jay replied, saying: "The first time I won it mate. The second time I came third. And neither time did I make anybody cry."
