GoCompare star rakes in six-figure wealth and buys three houses after ad success

GoCompare singer Wynne Evans has revealed that he owns three homes and pocketed a whopping six-figure sum last year thanks to the ads.

The 49-year-old has been starring as Gio Compario in the TV adverts for over 11 years, after impressing bosses with both his acting and singing skills, and credits them with giving his bank balance a serious boost.

Over the years the actor and opera singer has made more than 100 of the ads, making himself something of a staple on British TV.

And he says taking the job was the best business decision of his life and that it has been utterly life-changing.

"They've changed my life in so many ways and given me the opportunity to become a broadcaster," Wynne told The Sunday Times.

"My career has been built on those ads.

"At first, there was a bit of a backlash — it was an ad that people loved to hate — and I found that a bit upsetting. But crucially, the ads got the company noticed and it's never really looked back."

The singer now has a BBC Radio Wales show and an impressive three homes to his name.

He owns a stunning five-bedroom Edwardian house in Cardiff, a swanky one-bedroom flat in London and a three-bedroom cottage in west Wales, which is where he grew up.

Asked what he earned last year, Wynne confirmed it was six figures.

"Like Gary Lineker, I work for the BBC and appear in a long-running advertising campaign. But sadly, he earns somewhat more than me," he said.

But despite his wealth and success, the star admitted that because he's a freelancer he always thinks that things could change at any time.

He plans for it just in case, which means making sure he's always got a well-stocked cupboard of cans.

"I had 18 tins of beans at the last count," he said.
