Demi Moore Says She Felt 'Alone' in Her Marriage To Ashton Kutcher
At first, Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher seemed like the perfect couple. Yet slowly but surely, Kutcher began to distance himself from the Ghost star. As the years passed, he became less and less present in their marriage. Eventually, it got to the point where Moore felt utterly “alone” in their relationship.
When did Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore meet?
Moore and Kutcher met at a dinner party back in 2003.
When they met, Kutcher was 25-years-old while Moore was 40. Despite their age difference, they instantly became attached to each other.
The two would spend all of their time together, and Moore felt incredibly safe and happy with Kutcher.
But things changed for the couple once the honeymoon phase fizzled out.
After getting married, Kutcher began to pull away from his then-wife. Yet, according to Moore, this was to be expected considering how “codependent” she became with him.
“It’s kind of a natural thing to pull back when somebody’s, you know, clinging too tight,” she revealed to Good Morning America.
But according to Moore, it was more than just being too clingy with Kutcher. In fact, she goes so far as to claim that she was “addicted to him.”
“I was addicted to him,” she writes. “And I did all the things that addicts do. I prioritized my addiction over my needs and the needs of my family. I made strange, unconvincing justifications for my behavior- and his.”
Demi Moore felt ‘alone’ in her relationship with Ashton Kutcher
Sadly, as time passed, Kutcher began looking for ways to end things with Moore. While married to the star, he started cheating on her with much younger women. And the worst part? He tried to justify his actions.
“He was looking for a way to deflect blame to maintain his perception of himself as a decent family guy,” she writes of her ex-husband.
And according to Moore, he stopped trying to fix things early on in their marriage. This caused her to feel utterly alone in their relationship.
“He didn’t really want to work on our relationship,” she writes. “Ashton didn’t want us to have sex or be physical anymore. He was done. I was still very much in our marriage, but I was in it alone now.”
Ashton Kutcher told Demi Moore he wanted to move out while they were married
In Moore’s memoir, she recalls how hurtful it was when Kutcher told her he no longer wanted to live with her.
“We hadn’t been speaking,” she writes. “I looked at Ashton as I entered the room, and I felt a chill go through me. His eyes were icy, dead. It was like I was seeing the coldest person I’d ever encountered- nothing like the man I fell in love with years earlier. And it was certainly not like looking into the eyes of someone who loved me.”
“That night, he said, ‘I think I should move out.’”
“Whoa, whoa, WHOA!” She said in response. “We’re married. That’s not how we do things. How did this go from us having issues we need to work on to ‘I’m moving out?’”
Not long after, they divorced.
Moore said in a public statement (via People Magazine,)
“It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton. As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life.”
