David Bakhtiari Signs $105.5 Million Extension, Becomes Highest-Paid Offensive Linemen In NFL History
The Green Bay Packers have made star left tackle David Bakhtiari the richest offensive lineman in NFL history.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Bakhtiari has signed a four-year contract extension worth $105.5 million. Rapoport added that Bakhtiari received a $30 million signing bonus, and the contract has a “practical guarantee” of at least $62.8 million.
The new deal is slightly more than the five-year, $98.75 million contract the Baltimore Ravens handed star offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley last month. Simply put, the market for offensive linemen is quickly skyrocketing.
Earlier this offseason, the Houston Texans handed offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil a three-year, $66 million deal. That obviously boded well for Stanley and Bakhtiari, as well as other offensive linemen who will soon receive new contracts.
Bakhtiari was entering the final season of a four-year contract that he signed in the 2016 season. With Bakhtiari signed, that takes one potential big name off the 2021 free agent market.
Other than quarterback Aaron Rodgers and star wide receiver Davante Adams, one can argue that Bakhtiari is the Packers’ most valuable player. He earned his second career Pro Bowl selection last season, and Bakhtiari is only two years removed from his first All-Pro selection.

The Packers are once again among the NFL’s top teams in 2020. They moved to 7-2 on the season after defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars 24-20 at Lambeau Field on Sunday.
The bulk of Green Bay’s core players are now signed long-term. This includes Rodgers, Bakhtiari and key defensive players Adrian Amos, Kenny Clark, Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith. Up next, the Packers need to extend Adams (signed through 2021) and standout running back Aaron Jones – whose deal expires after this season.
All in all, it was a great Sunday for the Packers. They extended one of their key players long-term on the same day they defeated Jacksonville. This team will be among the top Super Bowl contenders come January.
