Ant and Dec hilariously recreate iconic Renaissance portrait for new viral isolation trend

Self-isolation can be a little tedious, there’s no denying, but two people who seems to be squashing their boredom are Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly, as the presenter duo opted for a little dress up during lockdown.

The pair, both 44, may be self-isolating separately, but that didn’t stop them recreating Jan Van Eyck’s 1434 Arnolfini portrait… as you do!

The Saturday Night Takeaway duo hit up Instagram to share their hilarious mimic of the portrait, to their 3.9 million followers.

They captioned the shot: “Art Meets Dec #BetweenArtandQuarantine,” and fans couldn’t help but tease the pair over the fun image.

“I’m literally crying this is so funny,” wrote one person, while another added: “It’s so funny it looks exactly the same.”

“Hahahaha I love this,” a third penned, with a fourth writing: “Omg yes,” with a clapping hands emoji.

Ant and Dec’s #BetweenArtandQuarantine attempt is one of many, as the hashtag has been used by thousands who have taken to re-creating art at home around the world.

The Geordie pair showed off some very savvy computer skills to place themselves in the same space for the portrait, which was bought by London’s National Gallery in 1842, where it is still housed.

Ant was in a black shroud and robe, whilst Dec donned a long green robe. A dog also makes a welcome appearance in the photo.

Thousands of people have been recreating their favourite paintings after Getty Museum invited people to try their hand at the challenge.

They wrote: “We challenge you to recreate a work of art with objects (and people) in your home.”

And it seems people were quick to jump on the challenge, with the public recreating an array of famous artworks using props from the home.

The portrait shows Ant and Dec aren’t letting recent Ofcom complaints get them down.

As they presented Saturday Night Takeaway live from their living rooms for the first time in the show’s 18 year history, viewers were left shocked to see that while Dec gently placed his Dachshund on the sofa to get him off camera, Ant seemed to shoo his three pedigree pals with a bit more force.
