Alicia Keys Drops Uplifting Self-Titled Album

Alicia Keys has released her self-titled effort, ALICIA.

Clocking in at almost a full hour, the project marks the GRAMMY winner’s seventh studio album and her first since 2016’s here. The release arrives with 15 tracks and guest features from Diamond Platinumz on “Wasted Energy,” Sampha on “3 Hour Drive,” Tierra Whack on “Me x 7,” Miguel on “Show Me Love,” Khalid on “So Done,” Snoh Aalegra on “You Save Me” and Jill Scott on a track named after her.

ALICIA can be considered an overall warm and uplifting record, but the singer-songwriter doesn’t hold back on political and racial commentary. Her powerful cut “Perfect Way to Die” is a reflection of police brutality in the United States, with its accompanying visual seeing her bend down on one knee and honor the countless victim. Keys’ strongest ability is capturing the truth — both the good and bad — and transforming it into a more digestible form for those overwhelmed with the influx of reality. At a time when political tensions are at its highest and people are battling with a pandemic, ALICIA undoubtedly offers a space for listeners to realign and refresh themselves.
