Janet Jackson is a true icon. The “Together Again” singer parlayed her family’s fame into an opportunity to launch her own career as an entertainer. In 1982, Jackson released her self-titled debut album to much success (via Biography). The record sold about 250,000 copies and peaked at No. 84 on the pop charts. Following her impressive debut, the Indiana native continued to climb the charts and release a slew of No. 1 hits. Aside from dominating the music scene, Jackson has had an enviable career as an actress. She starred in Tyler Perry’s “Why Did I Get Married?” in 2007 and “For Colored Girls” in 2010. Jackson’s undeniable star quality demands attention.
In March of 2021, Lifetime and A&E announced that the 55-year-old’s magical life will be spotlighted in the upcoming documentary “JANET” (via Variety). According to People, the film is intended to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Jackson’s first album and is set to premiere across two days in January of 2022. JANET is almost here
According to Variety, Janet Jackson’s highly-anticipated documentary “JANET” will focus on some of the most infamous moments of her life. “JANET” will dive into Jackson’s 2004 Super Bowl performance, her reaction to her father Joseph’s death, and her journey to becoming a mother. The film will also share archival footage and never-before-seen home videos from Jackson’s early days. While we still have to wait for the finished project, the official teaser trailer has finally arrived.
Jackson shared the trailer on Instagram, which reveals that Missy Elliot, Mariah Carey, Paula Abdul, and more stars will be part of the documentary. We also learned in the trailer that, Jackson has been in the process of creating this film for five years and is very involved in the crafting of her narrative. She said in the trailer, “This is my story, told by me. Not through someone else’s eyes.” She later added, “This is the truth. Take it or leave it. Love it or hate it. This is me.”
Jackson executive produced this documentary with Randy Jackson, while Ben Hirsh is the lucky director. The four-hour event will premiere on A&E and Lifetime in January.
