'Tiger King' Star John Finlay Looks Much Different Now
Smile wide for the camera: Tiger King star John Finlay has a new set of teeth, and he’s relatively unrecognizable from his days talking about “murder, mayhem and madness” on the infamous Netflix series.
TMZ uncovered the first good look at his grin, while Finlay has also posted his smile of social media. Finlay tells TMZ he got dentures in July 2019 after filming the series.
In Tiger King, Finlay talks of his use of methamphetamines while he was in a relationship with the Tiger King himself, Joe Exotic. The series seems to suggest Finlay lost his teeth from smoking meth, though Finlay never discusses this in the series.
“Meth was the main one that we did,” Finlay says in the series. “It was starting to really fuck me up in the head. I mean, I’m still kind of fucked up in the head from it now.”
Finlay, however, told TMZ that he was missing teeth before using meth due to a genetic condition. Finlay has also been sober for six years, according to TMZ.
In a recent Facebook post on his own page, which is called “The Truth About John Finlay,” Finlay writes “Yes, I have my teeth fixed. The producers of the Netflix series had video and pictures of this, but chose not to show it. It’s all about the ratings for them, not the people they hurt.”
Men’s Health reached out to Netflix for comment.
Finlay came to Joe Exotic’s G.W. Exotic Animal Park in 2003 at 19 years old and quickly entered a romantic relationship with Exotic. The pair then entered a polyamorous relationship (and subsequent marriage) with Exotic’s boyfriend Travis Maldonado, though Exotic’s marriage to Finlay was not lawful.
While working as the president of the zoo, Finlay was accused of domestic abuse, along with abusing other park employees. He left his position in 2013. Finlay also left his relationship with Exotic after the two had a falling out, partly due to Finlay sleeping with women on the zoo’s staff—and fathering the child of the zoo’s secretary.
According to Paper Magazine, Finlay has a new job to go along with his new smile, too: He’s a welder.
