Simon Cowell offered to send plane to help Il Divo star Carlos Marin before death
X Factor judge Simon Cowell offered to send plane to help Il Divo star Carlos Marin before his death, it has been revealed.
The Il Divo singer was in a coma and intubated after testing positive for Covid on December 7 but he sadly passed away just 12 days later.
Carlos’ ex wife Geraldine Larrosa – who the singer was planning to remarry – has spoken out about how Simon, 62, was there for Carlos before his tragic death.
Simon was the man behind putting the band Il Divo together and had a strong working relationship with 53 year old Carlos and fellow members Urs Bühler, David Miller and Sébastien Izambard.
Geraldine told her native Spanish publication Hola! about Simon’s kind gesture in the lead up to Carlos’ death.
She said: "Simon Cowell phoned the hospital and offered to help with anything.
"To help him, send him a plane in case they could fly [to Spain] sooner, but it was impossible. He was very sick and he would not have survived the pressure of the plane."
Simon paid tribute to the singer with a Twitter post following his death.
He wrote: “I am finding this so difficult to put into words how I feel right now
“I am devastated Carlos Marin has passed away. He loved life.
"He loved performing and always had so much appreciation towards the fans who supported the group from day 1. Rest in peace Carlos. I will miss you."
Il Divo shared a statement on their Twitter page announcing the death of Carlos on Sunday 19 December.
It read: “It is with heavy hearts that we are letting you know that our friend and partner, Carlos Marin, has passed away. He will be missed by his friends, family and fans. There wiIl never be another voice or spirit like Carlos.”
“For 17 years the four of us have been on this incredible journey of Il Divo together, and we will miss our dear friend. We hope and pray that his beautiful soul will rest in peace,” it continued.
Geraldine, 44, also known as Innocence, was by her ex husband’s side when he passed away at Manchester Royal Infirmary on December 9 2021 and attended the funeral of the late Spanish baritone on Tuesday 28 December.
Geraldine, who tied the knot to Carlos in Disneyland, California, in June 2006, but divorced in 2009 after dating for 13 years, looked sombre as she placed a hand on his coffin at the Saint Isidore Funeral Home in Madrid.
