Selena Gomez Sings "Party in the U.S.A" to Celebrate Biden and Harris' Victory

“So I put my hands up, they’re playing my song… Biden’s gonna be the president.” Those aren’t the lyrics to Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the U.S.A,” but they might as well be since it’s being used as a celebatory song after President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris were named the winners of the 2020 U.S. presidential election. Celebrities have been sharing their excitement on social media and Selena Gomez recently posted a video to her Instagram Stories of her singing Miley’s famous song.

In the video, she can be seen riding in the car with a friend as they sing along to the song and Sel even pretends that she’s holding a microphone. This was only one of the posts she shared to Instagram after the election was called. She also wrote, “I was moved to tears by @JoeBiden & @KamalaHarris. Feeling so hopeful. Tonight was about kindness and compassion. We can have differences but still be kinds.”

She continued, “Seeing @KamalaHarris make history was long overdue but what a beautiful moment. So grateful for her and for @StaceyAbrams and @MichelleObama. They inspire me with their perseverance, selflessness & grace.”

Miley also shared a post on Instagram of the song being played behind several edited videos of Biden, Harris, and Trump (lol). She captioned the post, “NOW it’s a PARTY IN THE USA! 🇺🇸🎉 @joebiden @kamalaharris.”

On Saturday, Biden won the election according to the Associated Press, CNN, The New York Times, BBC, CBS, Fox News, and NBC News, securing his spot as the next president of the United States. He and running mate Harris will be sworn into office as president and vice president on Inauguration Day (January 20, 2021) once the Electoral College casts and counts its ballots in the coming month.

This really is a joyful time—let’s enjoy every moment of it.
