Rihanna and Jay-Z each donate $1 million to coronavirus relief efforts
Rihanna and Jay-Z have joined the growing list of celebrities making generous donations to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
The performers foundations have together donated $2 million to relief efforts — that specifically help the most vulnerable — in Los Angeles and New York City.
Jay-Z’s Shawn Carter Foundation and Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation’s donation will support the homeless and elderly, children of healthcare workers, the incarcerated and undocumented workers.
The foundations are also pushing for free COVID-19 testing for all NYC residents. Their money is also being distributed to charities like the ACLU, Mayor’s Fund for L.A., Fund for Public Schools and the New York Immigration Coalition.
The funds will help more than 20,000 children residing in shelters, learning material and food for the children of healthcare workers on the front line and home deliver meals to the elderly who are stuck inside.
“In times of crisis it is imperative that we come together as one community to ensure that everyone, especially the most vulnerable, has access to critical needs: shelter, health, nutrition and education,” Jay-Z’s mom, Gloria Carter and head of her son’s charity announced in a statement. “The only way to get through this pandemic is with love and action.”
Rihanna’s foundation has also donated $5 million to help combat the pandemic in the U.S., Africa and Caribbean.
