Piers Morgan decided to mock the Duchess of Sussex again this week as he received a nomination for a National Television Award. He branded Meghan “Princess Pinocchio” – something which he has called her in the past. He tweeted: “Most amused to finally be nominated for TV Presenter of the Year at the NTAs – though could be a tad #awks for ITV if I win for my work on @GMB.
“Might have to pull a Brando and send Princess Pinocchio along to receive it on my behalf…”
Piers has been a regular critic of Meghan, but his repeated attempts to humiliate the Duchess were met with condemnation in May.
The former Good Morning Britain host posted a meme on Instagram, suggesting Meghan could be drawn to newly single Bill Gates.
Piers shared an image of Meghan smiling to herself with text reading: “So Bill Gates just got divorced”. The text was also accompanied by money emojis.
However, Piers received criticism for the post from a number of social media users.
One said: “You’re obsessed with her. WEIRD!”
Another added: “She lives in your head rent-free.”
And a third commented: “Gosh, do you spend every waking hour thinking about her? #obsessed.”
Two months prior to this, Piers left Good Morning Britain after he refused to apologise for comments he had made about Meghan and her mental health.
During the Sussexes interview with Oprah Winfrey in March, Meghan said she had endured a tough time as part of the Royal Family, revealing at one stage she felt she “didn’t want to be alive anymore.”
After Piers said he “didn’t believe a word” the Duchess had said, ITV received a record number of Ofcom complaints.
Once Piers had departed Good Morning Britain, an ITV spokesperson said: “Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.”
One person who complained to ITV about Piers’s comments was Meghan herself, as reported by The Guardian and The Telegraph.
Piers said following his exit that he had reflected on his opinion on the Oprah interview and still did not believe Meghan, adding that “freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on”.
He added: “Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions.”
Jeremy Clarkson waded in on the row during a new show on ITV in April.

Clarkson mocked the Duchess of Sussex, joking that Piers Morgan “had a point” following his departure from Good Morning Britain.
On It’s Clarkson on TV, he referenced the Duchess’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.
He said: “There was a moment where Meghan Markle seemed to – how can I put this politely – break wind.”
The show ran a clip of Meghan discussing a time after her wedding to Prince Harry and Oprah responding.
Clarkson added: “Sorry can we just hear that again because it really does sound like Piers Morgan had a point, her pants really were on fire.
“Now I’ve had a note here from the legal department at ITV. They want it to be made plain that that was not a fart, I have no idea how they know that.
“But they want me to make it clear that the fart noise probably came out of Oprah’s mouth.”
