Myleene Klass, 42, has temporarily stepped in to take over Kate Garraway’s slot on Smooth Radio. It comes after the Good Morning Britain presenter has taken a break from her regular hosting duties as her husband Derek Draper remains critically ill with “extraordinary damage” caused by COVID-19.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Myleene explained life in lockdown had been an “eye-opener” to what other families are experiencing as she addressed her pals’ struggles.

The pianist said: “I’m now doing double radio shows but I’ve not been able to do my other jobs and modelling shoots and performances because those have now been paused. They are not allowed at the moment.

“So it hasn’t been an extra workload but it’s definitely been a real eye-opener to what other families are experiencing.”

Myleene explained “there isn’t a day” she’s not thinking about Kate and remains in regular contact with the GMB host.

“There’s not a day I don’t sit in Kate’s chair and think about what she must be going through,” the radio presenter commented.

“I’m always in touch making sure she is ok.”

Myleene went on to say: “It’s very, very sobering at the same time.

“Because I can sit with my family at the dinner table but not everyone can. That’s a constant reminder.”

Earlier this month, Myleene shared a sweet throwback video of Kate and Derek dancing together to Elvis Presley’s Suspicious Minds.

It was posted just hours after Kate gave an emotional update on Derek’s battle with coronavirus.

Kate said she “doesn’t know” if Derek can recover from the “extraordinary damage” COVID-19 has inflicted on his body.

Derek is now coronavirus-free, however the virus has attacked other parts of his body.

Meanwhile, Myleene has been holed up at home with her children and boyfriend Simon Motson during the nationwide lockdown.

The mum-of-three has teamed up with McCain, as part of its Nations Conversation research, where nearly eight in 10 of people have said they wanted to keep some aspect of their current regime when lockdown ends.

The research also revealed 28 percent of parents believe their new routine has brought their family closer together.

Filmed at her London home by her partner Simon and daughters Ava, 12, and Hero, nine, Myleene recited a poem, The Family Pledge, which captured the highs and lows of lockdown.

In addition, the radio presenter has pledged to continue her music class with her family even after the lockdown has been lifted.

Speaking about the campaign, Myleene explained: “When you look at what’s been going on in the world, and everyone’s got a chance to take stock and think, ‘How do I want to do this going forward?'”

She continued: “The campaign connected with how I’ve been feeling with my family and the things I’ve been reflecting on and how I want to move forward. The changes we are all going to be making.

“McCain has really tapped into how we’ve all really been feeling.”
