Kane Brown, John Legend Perform New Duet ‘Last Time I Say Sorry’ For First Time
Kane Brown and John Legend teamed up to perform “Last Time I Say Sorry” for the first ever time at the Academy of Country Music’s “Our Country” special on April 5.
Brown, sitting in his living room in Nashville, gave an introduction about the song, which was released a couple of days earlier. He then called up Legend via FaceTime.
“Man, I don’t know what to do,” Legend said. “I’m trying to find ways to stay creative and find ways to stay in touch with people but it’s definitely a weird time.”
“It’s weird we’re doing it this way but I feel like we got this,” said Brown, as they started singing the ballad from their respective houses. Legend provided the piano accompaniment as well.
“Broken hearts and shattered champagne/ We both don’t want to feel that again,” sang Legend, while Brown sang, “So I swallow my pride to see it from your side/ I promise that I’ll do the best I can do.”
“The last time I said sorry/ Is the last time I’ll say sorry to you,” they sang in the chorus.
Brown concluded the performance, saying, “I’m so grateful to have a song with you and I hope everybody else loves it as much as I do.”
While speaking with Gayle King on CBS previously, Brown said the song came naturally.
“We just started talking about our relationships,” he said. “Usually the guys in the relationship will say sorry and then turn around and do it again — and me and John were both like, ‘That’s the worst feeling in the world.'”
Brown first connected with Legend when he joined as guest on the R&B star’s online “Trailer Talk” interview series.
