Where to start with Beyoncé?
The singer and songwriter’s acts of kindness are wide-ranging, from sending flowers to young brain cancer sufferer Lyric Chanel in September, to setting up a scholarship programme to pay for women to go to college.
Then there’s her work helping people who lost their homes in Hurricane Katrina to find new housing and her initiatives for sick and homeless children.
“Beyonce Knowles Carter has been lighting up the stages and gracing the world with her talent, with her generosity of spirit, and with her love for her community.” – Former First Lady Michelle Obama
But this year her generosity has gone off the charts. Through her charity BeyGOOD, she gave over £750,000 to black-owned businesses who were struggling because of COVID-19, while at the beginning of lockdown, she donated a staggering £4.6million to essential workers and their families, who were affected by the pandemic.
Michelle Obama put it perfectly when she awarded Beyonce with the 2020 BET Humanitarian Award: “Ever since she was a little girl in Houston, Beyonce Knowles Carter has been lighting up the stages and gracing the world with her talent, with her generosity of spirit, and with her love for her community.
“You can see it in everything she does, from her music that gives voice to black joy and black pain, to her activism that demands justice for black lives.”
