Amanda Holden, 49, revealed she had sleepless nights upon learning that the music mogul had broken his back following a horrific motorcycle accident. After hearing the “gut-wrenching” news Simon had fallen off his electric bike in August, the TV star sent him some lego books, cashmere socks and butterscotch Angel Delight.

Amanda admitted she feared that Simon could die after receiving the news and could not sleep as she had not heard from him.

She said: “I honestly panicked it could be fatal. I felt physically sick as I didn’t know how bad it was.

“I wanted him to be alive, but I also wanted him to be able to walk as he’s such a good friend,” she added to The Sun.

As Simon does not have a phone, Amanda got in contact with him through his partner Lauren Silverman, who explained the situation.

An ITV source recently confirmed that Simon will not be able to make the Britain’s Got Talent finals as he continues to recover at home.

They told the publication: “He will not return to the panel in time for the final.

“He’s obviously a massive loss but we are happy with the very talented judging panel.”

However, a producer from the show confirmed that Simon was doing well despite his injuries.

Although he won’t attend the finals in person, he will make an appearance by video link.

At the time of the incident, Amanda shared a sweet snap of her with “dear friend” Simon on Instagram, after the music mogul had undergone surgery as a result of his fall.

Simon had broken his back while testing out his new bike outside his Malibu mansion.

Amanda, who works closely with Simon on Britain’s Got Talent, updated fans on his progress following six hours of surgery at Providence Saint John’s hospital in Santa Monica.

Sharing a throwback photo of the pair, she wrote: “I’ve been thinking about my dear friend all day and luckily I’m able to say (with blessing) that he’s had his operation and he’s doing really well.

“Chris Lexi Hollie and me wish you a speedy recovery and send you, Lauren and Eric all our love,” alongside a heart emoji.

The pair have been close friends after Simon hired Amanda as a Britain’s Got Talent judge back in 2007.

An insider, believed to be close to Simon, told The Mirror: “I spoke to him before the surgery and he was in incredible, ridiculous amounts of pain and also in shock.

“His back was broken in several places, but he is actually very lucky.

“He fell flat on his back, and the doctors say the impact missed his spinal cord by about a centimetre and it could have been a lot, lot more serious.

“He was in surgery for six hours, and they had to put a metal rod in his back and fix a number of things.”

Britain’s Got Talent airs tonight at 8pm on ITV.
