I started my business from my bedroom with just £430 and now I'm a multi-millionaire – here's how you can too | The Sun

AS the cost of living crisis continues to cause havoc for many households up and down the country, for many of us, things are seeming pretty bleak.

As we slave away at our desks for eight hours a day, more and more people are turning to side hustles in the hope of earning a little extra income.

One woman, Kendra Scott, proved that side hustles can be a huge success, as back in 2022, she started a jewellery line as a passion project with around £430, and ultimately built it into the Kendra Scott brand that is worth a reported £870million, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Kendra turned her side hustle into a booming business, all from her spare bedroom.

Just three months after having her first child, Kendra started her business from her home in Austin, Texas.

With her baby in tow, she went door-to-door pitching local boutiques to carry her product.

At first, she managed to grow the Kendra Scott customer base locally, but then landed major retailers like Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s.

If you are struggling with your 9-5 office slog and need some inspiration, Kendra told CNBC Make It: “Anyone can turn a side hustle into a strong source of income if you lead with authentic passion, deliver with excellent service and are filling a true need.”

Kendra explained that she has a passion for fashion and has always been inspired to help others feel and look confident.

Her business was built on learning from past mistakes while also lifting up other women.

Talking about advice she would give to her younger self, Kendra told Forbes: “Sometimes it’s enough to try.

“You might throw a number out there and be surprised at what happens.

“Don’t underestimate what you can do.

“For my younger self, I would tell myself that my past failures would be my future successes.

“At the time, they’re really hard to go through – a divorce or the closing of a business or whatever it might have been.

“All of those events were actually the bridge to get me to the next place that I was going towards.

“If I didn’t experience that, I wouldn’t be able to run a successful company today.

“I wouldn’t be in the healthy amazing relationship that I’m in today.
